Menopause (HRT)

Estradiol and progesterone, or a hormone-free option

In plain words

During perimenopause and menopause, your body makes less estrogen. That drop causes hot flashes, night sweats, poor sleep and mood changes. HRT replaces some of that estrogen to ease these symptoms.

How it works

Your clinician picks the form and dose that fit you. If you still have a uterus, progesterone is added to protect its lining.

What’s inside, ingredient by ingredient

Estradiol

The same form of estrogen your body makes. Eases hot flashes, night sweats and vaginal dryness.

Progesterone

Protects the lining of the uterus when you take estrogen, and may help with sleep.

Paroxetine or desvenlafaxine

Hormone-free medicines that act on brain chemicals that control body temperature. Low-dose paroxetine is FDA-approved for menopause hot flashes.

How you take it

  • Estradiol cream: rub on the skin once a day
  • Estradiol patch: stick on your lower belly or hip, change twice a week
  • Estradiol tablet: once a day
  • Progesterone: one capsule by mouth, usually at bedtime
  • Hormone-free option: one tablet a day

Who it may be for

Women in perimenopause or menopause.

A licensed clinician decides if it’s right for you. Not everyone qualifies.
